Tough and heavy Jan 30, 2010
By Gift Card This lock is a big fat heavy pain in the butt but worth every $ and pound if you want to keep your bike safe.

Wow, wotta bike lock! Dec 21, 2009
By Marko Vuckic I just received this lock from amazon. It is a monster. It is practically undefeatable. The links are massive, the lock robust. I really can't see this bike lock being defeated without some heavy duty powered shop machinery. It would literally be far easier just to cut through the bike itself, or the pole it's secured to. I must admit, I wasn't expecting such a behemoth. I don't know how to carry it. People stare. For the price, it's a bargain. I only paid $350 for my bike, but many people pay 5-10 times that amount for their bikes. If you do, this is the lock for you. Trust me, you use this lock and that bike ain't goin' nowhere. It's ironic that a low-crime area (a college campus) is always notorious for bike thefts. Buy this lock as a college freshman; you'll still have your bike when you graduate. Thanks amazon!

Leave your bike outside and don't worry about it! Mar 03, 2010
By Marcos I. Velez This chain inspires confidence. Feel safe leaving your bike outside without having to worry about it being there when you come back. I got this chain after my first bike was stolen from the mean streets of NYC while at work. Determined to avoid future disappointments again, I got this chain. I now leave my bike outside and never worry about it.

Mobility of bike lock (without added security) makes this a poor purchase Jan 06, 2012
By J. Cazes I own a chain just like this. See my review here: Kryptonite New York Chain 3' With Key Lock
The problem with these giant chains is a sense of added security, but I'm not convinced you get it with something like this. Big bolt cutters will demolish this thing (for evidence, search youtube for "security chains vs. bolt choppers", skip to 6min24s... this chain gets demolished in less than a minute. Granted, they're huge bolt cutters. But someone running around in a van at 3AM isn't going to care.). Couple the questionable security with how big of a pain this thing is to lug around (I've owned the chain for years) and I can't imagine it's worth it.
Anyway, since no bike lock seems to be impervious to bike theft, it's important for people to realize the only true security is to store the bike within sight (your home, place of work, near you on a restaurant patio, etc.). I imagine the latest and greatest u-locks are a better option due to the shear time it takes to grind through them (with bolt cutters not being an option), but I'd wager all bike chains are susceptible to big bolt cutters.

Can't touch this. Jan 19, 2011
By NiceGuy I live in NYC. I have an awesome totally stealable bike. I have a Kryptonite New York 1210 Bicycle Chain. Thieves can't touch this.
This chain is so robust, that I am actually afraid to use it...what if I lose the key, or if the lock jams?! :-)
Well, the lock is pretty much guaranteed not to jam, you get 3 sets of keys with it (one includes a handy light)...so rest assured, your ride is safe with this. Oh, and the length is just right, honestly, unless you have some special need to have a very long chain, this one does the trick at any pole/bike rack. It's heavy for a bike chain (maybe 10lbs or so), so you won't want one much bigger anyway.
