Perfect Pack, Would rather have different bottles May 22, 2010

I bought this pack for hiking with my son and his Cub Scout Troop, trips to the amusement park, etc. It comfortably holds water bottles for both of us and snacks, supplies, camera and/or a spare rain poncho. Having your hands free is a wonderful thing!
The pack itself is worthy of 5 stars. I did a lot of looking. I could not find a better lumbar pack for my needs. My only complaint (and only reason for the 4 star rating) is the included bottles. They have a screw cap instead of a pop top like a regular water bottle. They aren't dishwasher safe. And... The bottles say, "Discard if the plastic becomes cloudy". Cloudy... What's up with that?? If you buy bottled water, you can use those bottles instead. So, it's not too big a deal.
The pack appears well made. It has two stretchy side mesh pockets for bottles. They are adjustable and can securely hold larger or smaller sized bottles. The pack has a padded carrying handle. The main zipper pouch is about 9"wide x 8"high x 3.5"deep. It's flexible material. So, you can really stuff things in. It's about the same height and depth as the water bottles. There is a smaller outer zipper pouch that measures about 7" x 7" x 1". Both pouches have colapsable sides that will keep things inside when you open either pouch. The area that comes in contact with your back is padded. The pack is quite comfortable to wear. It does "look" big like other reviewers have commented. It doesn't feel big once you have it on. It is quite light too. There are also things like an MP3 holder with a hole to feed your headset wire through. You can find a description on the High Sierra website. I included those things here that I couldn't determine by looking at the web site.
Of the research I did, the best fits for my needs were two from High Sierra, the Ridgeline(this one) & the Express, and the Buzz II from Mountainsmith. The Express has a pouch that is 1 inch smaller and no handle. The Buzz II has pop top water bottles, but a pouch that is "much" smaller - too small for my needs. Both appear to be very nice lumbar packs. You may want to compare them and decide for yourself. For me... I'm happy with what I chose.

This pack is exactly as expected with one exception. I ordered with the expectation, based on other reviews on Amazon, that I would send the two included bottles directly to the recycle bin because their plastic contains BPA. Much to my [pleasant] surprise, this was not the case. The bottles are now labeled to be BPA free.

Hello, Okay so I liked the product very much. I have to send it back because it was way too large. I am a short guy 5'5, weigh about 155lbs and have a small frame. I put this pack on me and I looked silly. It looked like an extra body part hanging off my back. Not cool. If i were a taller person I think it would suite best. Next time I am going to be more mindful about the size. Just wanted to give everyone the heads up. Aside from that. I wish It fit me. =(

I bought this bag as a last minute shopping item right before we went to Maine and it was well worth it. This bag can hold a lot of stuff and is very comfortable to wear on the back or on the shoulder. Comes with 2 nice half-litre water bottles that saves you money :-) I was able to hold all my cameras, my money wallet, baby stuff and some snacks all in one bag and yet there is more room left, but I tried not to stuff too much.
Amazon has a real good deal on this bag esp. with free shipping. I am thinking about buying another one.

This back pack does hold it all but there are a couple of draw backs. The water bottles are not freezer safe. I like to fill mine half full and freeze them so the water stays colder longer on hot days. Both water bottles cracked and were ruined. Also I don't like the side straps. If you are a woman and of average waist size, then there is a lot of left over strap on both sides that even though there are clips to keep the extra in line, it doesn't hold it all neatly and it ends up dangling on both sides. The one thing good about this pack is it holds a lot of stuff. Two water bottles and the other pockets are very roomy. I can pack a small plastic water dish for my dog in the larger compartment and still have plenty of room for other things. I just didn't like the bulkiness of it as a unit and the messy extra long side straps.
